1. Insufficient Pellet Hardness
Soft pellets may be comfortable under a cat’s paws, but they can break during shipping, pouring and digging.
Pellet hardness needs to be balanced with absorption. Extremely hard pellets may absorb more slowly, while very soft pellets may create excessive powder.
2. Moisture Exposure
Tofu and other plant-derived materials can be sensitive to humidity. Inadequate sealing or poor warehouse conditions may weaken pellets before the consumer opens the bag.
Importers should ask about the packaging’s moisture barrier, sealing method and recommended storage conditions.
3. Transportation Damage
A small sample shipped by courier may perform differently from retail bags stacked inside a container.
Vibration, compression and repeated handling can increase powder content. Commercial packaging should therefore be tested under realistic shipping conditions.
4. Formula and Particle Dimensions
Tofu, cassava, corn and blended litters behave differently after absorbing liquid. Pellet diameter, starch content and processing conditions can influence clumping and breakdown.
